I am trying to download the new Education pack and my PC failed the windows validation process.

I have not had issues with the validation process in the past on this computer. Two things are different this time:

1. I wiped the HDD and restored from the NEC restore disks that came with the computer. This is my second time to do this since I have owned the NEC and I have validated after that first restore.

2. When I conducted the validation process I noticed that it never asked for my product key like it has in the past. Instead, after downloading the ActiveX code, it asked for the manufacturer of the HW and then told me something was wrong.

Is there a phone number I can call specific to validation issues?

You don't have to validate to download the experience pack. You can just skip to the download page.

I know, and I did, but I am still concerned about this validation process.

Not sure about phone numbers for validation issues, other than Microsoft's support line. Did the OS ask you to activate it when you restored from the NEC CDs?

I don't remember it asking me to, but I checked, and it is activated.

Any other ideas?

If it makes you feel any better, both of my Motions get an error. I basically States my machine is using a key from a major manufacturer, but my hardware doesn't match any they build.

Is this what you saw?

Yes, basically, it tells me to contact my reseller to fix the issue. But again, the first time I restored the OEM image, it asked me to enter my authentication code from my computer, but this time it skipped that and asked me to enter the name of the HW manufacturer and from whom I purchased the machine. After I entered this, it told me that there was a probllem and that I should contact my reseller to resolve.

My reseller was another guy on eBay...

Perhaps motion generally is not the issue: my 1300 has passed all the MS validations that it has been asked to complete, so the difficulty may lie elsewhere. I have downloaded the education pack without difficulty.

Have you made any hardware modifications? (I have not). Have you kept up with the XP updates? (I have) Were you running any other programs while attempting the download? ( Grasping at straws with that question, I admit, but it's possible...)

I have made HW mods but not before attempting the authentication process.

Yes, I have my tablet set to automatic XP updates.

I may have had Outlook running in the background, but I cannot specifically remember.

I guess I shoud just try reformatting and restoring the original image again...

Doing this is a pita,[xx(] but it just about eliminates the question of software configuration in diagnosing the issue.

I agree! I just think it's time for a new Tablet! Now if they would only come out with one that is thinnner and lighter than the NEC...
