A replacement for the M200 seems several months away. What features would you like it to have when it eventually appears?

I'd like:
1. Lighter weight
2. Included optical drive
3. biometric sensor

1 and 2 are at odds, to say the least. 3. only means a smart thief will take your thumb too, and that you'll still have lost your TPC no matter what. Reducing security to "something you have" usually isn't that smart :/

A MUCH wider viewing angle. Otherwise, as long as it keeps up to date with respect to its current niche, (dedicated video card, high-res screen of about the same size, good CPU power), I'll be quite happy.

I'd like to see a slate by toshiba with a 10.4 or 12.1 inch screen. I want more mobility. An optical drive would be nice too. I think at least an SXGA screen. A more durable pen too. A DVI out and a Tv-out aswell along with FireWire support.

Honestly, I'd be happy with the same screen resolution but with a better viewing area and thinner form (lighter weight).
-Jet black; drop the grey.
- Same resolution
- 12" display
- non-shared memory for graphics
- Thinner; don't bother with the optical, leave it out and make it thinner.
- Wider viewing angle

Honestly, my ideal world be a slate M200.

wait-a-minute...isn't the M4 the replacement for the 200? what does the 200 have over the m4?

Smaller size and less weight.

Gimme a wide viewing angle screen (existing res is ok), 120Gb 7200 RPM HDD, maybe Firewire, better battery life, a little more GPU oomph, and I'm good.

Of course, all the Sonoma bits (Serial ATA, faster FSB, PCI express, etc) would be a given.

slightly smaller form factor
nub in addition to the (currently incredibly crappy) touch pad

full use of fliptop for screen - come on, i think they can fit a 14" screen with the current size m200 if they try a lil harder - IBM does it with the T21 series

pci-e video card so that i can upgrade it if i want

lighter, why is it at 4.3lbs when the ibm t series is a similar weight but has an optical drive?

better viewing angle

m200 currently really is pretty good though. i use it as my desktop replacement with an external mouse, keyboard, and monitor. the 2ghz dothan i have in there walks all over tons of other processors.

In order of importance:
1 Upgradeable video card
2 Upgradeable video card
3 Longer battery life
4 Wider viewing angle
5 Internal DVD-R/CD-R combo drive
6 Firewire support

//Did I mention upgradeable video card? Yes. Well, OK then.

The M4 is in a different line of products than the M200. The M200 tried to handle all the needs for a while since it was the only tablet product, but now each line except the Portege (where the M200 is) has its own tablet model. The Portege is supposed to emphasize mobility rather than power. Thus, one could expect the eventual new Portege model to be lighter than the M200 and, perhaps, only a little more powerful (since it will be introduced about two years after the M200.

Actually I hope the line stays portable and powerful. Thats the reason I am getting it vs something like the IBM. Unless they put a 12" in the tecraM line that continues the M200 tradition and have a super light machine in the Portege line.

If we assume the eventual M200 replacement will follow the Portege tradition of mobility, it should weigh no more than 3.5 pounds, have an eight hour power source (battery or fuel cell or whatever).

1. Improved Viewing Angle! ("View Anywhere")
2. Thinner
3. Option for Integrated Video (goes w/ thinner) (will also make it more affordable)
4. More business-like design (why the silvery grey junk?, go w/ matte black)

I started with a 3505 and now have purchased 3 M200's. The latest one came with Bluetooth as standard (the other two I had to order separately), SP2 and Onenote SP1. As you can tell I like the M200. My main requests for updates would be

1. lighter
2. improved battery life (I only get about 2.5 hours on mine) - so I always order a spare battery and carry one along with me especially if I plan to be at long meetings :-(
3. IEEE 1394 would be nice

I would much prefer a lowe weight over a builtin optical drive

I love the SD reader - I use the SD reader in preference to a USB stick (I have a 1G card I use) since I can carry lots of data around without it sticking out of the USB port and when I want to use the SD card in my desktop, just use a tiny SD USB reader

FireWire
Gigabit Ethernet
DVI output in lieu of VGA
WiFi n, WiMax
Better viewing angles
Fingerprint reader
Dual processors - one for AV, firewall, antispam, etc., and one for real work.
3 lbs wgt
8 hr power supply (battery or fuel cell)
A TIP that shows function, control, and punctuation keys above the handwriting area at all times.

Give it a wide angle, indoor/outdoor, non glare screen
add x600 or x700 with 128 MB
give me optional 6-8h 8+ cell battery - dont care if it ways a pound more

- and call it a day. Make an announcement. Sell it in August.

Dont bother adding an optical drive. Actually, sell it as a barebone so I can add my own drive and ram.

Now that I think about it - Maybe it would be interesting to see 13". Anyone ever heard anything about wide screen displays in tablets?
