Hi, i am writing this on my brand new Portege 3500 and i am having major problems with the screen. Right around the middle of the display is a 4 square inch area that displays horrible distortion when even just a little pressure is applied.

I am using Sketh Book and it's driving me nuts! When I paint it looks like I am painting in a pool of water. I noticed a tiny little dot, smaller than a pixel around which this is happening. Outside of that area things are fine.

Do you guys have the some problem? is this a defect? Do I need to get the display replaced?

Also, the view angle on the screen seems very narrow. When I am in portrait mode one eye sees different colors than the other and I can't use that mode for to long.

I have the same problem in the quadrant next to the power button. It only happens i believe when the unit has been on awile but I definatly notice it after i write for about 1/2-1 hour worth of notes in class. It doesnt sound as bad as your but I am hoping it doenst become worse.. Does your display problem happen all the time or when it heats up, also has it gotten worse?? or the area gotten larger?

So, I went to the Toshiba Service Center here and they made a big deal that Toshiba is very bad at exchanging damaged LCD screens. They had to ask customers to give their Credit Card number when they drop of laptops, even when performing Warranty service because Toshiba would not approve LCD replacements and would ask at least $1200 to replace one. And the customers would never come back for the broken laptops.

In my case they ordered me a new LCD screen, because I could demonstrate the water effect and the little foreign object inside the LCD screen. They should get it on Monday. They also told me that they will only replace the LCD screen once. If the problem persists or if I get a new LCD with a lot of dead pixels, I will be stuck with it.

And I am only one month into my 3 year Warranty. Kinda makes you feel discouraged, don't it?

I just got back from CompUSA and tested out the tablet at the store and it is doing the EXACT same thing. So guess it is just the way tablet is build and the way I draw on it.

Could you guys turn the desktop on yor tablets to solid blue and draw in the middle of the screen with medium pressure and report back if you get any chromatic distortion?

On my toshiba I don't notice any particular color banding such as you describe. When I press down hard I do get the appearance of distortion on the screen but can easily tell that it's because I'm pushing so hard on the screen. I use Sketchbook a lot on my system and don't have any issues like you describe in it either.

Where did you get the tablet from? With the extended warrenty that I got from Compusa it specifically states that I can get up to 1 screen replacement for each year of the extened warrenty if something happens to it, you might want to read your warrenty's small print, make copies and highlight specific sections for your repair centers if they continue to say that you only get 1 ever.

My experience is like CageMarrow's. I only have what you describe when I push hard in the center. I have none near the power button. Even when I push it is not that bad.

I have to admit, however, I am not an artist and couldn't draw to save my life. I could see how it could really annoy you if it distorts what you are seeing when you draw in that area.

I wonder if this happens on the Motion? They use some Toshiba screen components.

It is the plastic screen cover the toshiba uses. Now that i know, it is not a big deal anymore. I have adjusted the pressure in Alias sketch and it is working just fine for me. It was just a shock at first. Now i am fine with it.
