I've been browsing the forums now, and am starting to get a little concerned. Is anyone here not having any problems with their TC1000? Mine's already (supposedly) on the way, so I was wondering if anyone has had any non-problematic experiences with them... after reading all the things about WiFi problems and disconnecting USB devices (Both are things which i'll be using), I was just wondering if anyone hasn't had any severe problems with their TC1000 yet. Thanks!

I've had no hardware (USB or Wifi) or pen problems.I received my TC 1000 early February and I think all the bugs were worked out by then.

I bought my wife a TC1000 for Christmas. She is a full-time college student and uses it daily at both home and school. The unit has operated flawlessly without any of the pen malfunctions or WiFi problems reported by others in this forum.

I've also had no serious issues, I've never had the need to even call support. I bought my TC1000 on the day of the launch, and it arrived a few weeks later. Mine has been great from the start. You will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Same here, no major problems (Pen, USB disconnect, Wifi) except I am too stupid to try to reverse the BIOS update process and caused my tablet to become a true "tablet"... [cry]

I have had two TC1k's, and they have both been flawless.

i think its safe to say that more people than not don't have any problems.. Obviously its hard to guage what the percentage is, but by in large the people posting in the forums (or any forums for that matter) are people who need help of some kind.. I mean lets face it, how many people have you seen post a message along the lines of "Hi, I just wanted to tell everyone my tablet pc runs flawlessly!" It'd definately make for some boring threads, thats for sure.

incidentally, aside from my dumbass putting a little scratch on the screen, my unit works great..

I have been fortunate as well. I received my Compag during November. I got my wife one for Xmas.
I use mine every day and pack it with me every where i go. Neither she nor I have had any trouble.
It has changed my way of computing!

Well, the good news is that I have a fully functional tablet PC bought just before Christmas. Everything works well and the performance is excellent. However, there have been problems along the way:
- Double-clicking pen, replaced under warranty
- Charger went phut and expired, replaced under warranty
- Installation was never stable, continuously crashed - now rectified by restoring from the CDs
This latter was interesting, the restore from CDs is not the same installation as that which came hotloaded on the hard disk. It is appreciably more stable and faster. Seems like Compaq made changes and supplied the CDs, but gave me an older hotloaded machine. The good news is that all is now well.

I have had lots of problems (early November purchase). But I still love my TC1000 because of the wonderful technical support I have received from Compaq. Not what you wanted to hear, but might give you a little comfort if something does happen. Good luck.

Another satisfied customer here.
No problems with the hardware whatsoever.
Upgraded the harddrive to 60 gig, 512 MB ram, changed the mini-PCI wireless+modem to a Dell TrueMobile 1150 mini-PCI, am using usb-to-serial adapter etc.
After the Transmeta upgrade the computer seems less sluggish, and more enjoyable.

Hi Lars,
Could you be more specific about that "tranmeta" upgrade: I think I have missed someting there.
Thanks

After receiving the TC1000 I found my battery was faulty (it did not charge). Phoned HP and they shipped me a new battery from Holland to the UK in two days. Replaced the battery and sent the old one back.
Everything is fine now. No problems. Couldn't be happier. I use it for journal, email, surfing, writing the odd word document, developing (Visual Studio.NET is installed on it, SQL Server too) and playing games (although not the very latest ones). I really did not expect to be able to get VS.NET or games on it so I am pretty amazed.

I have had no problems. I was at first disappointed in the speed of the unit, but after applying some tweaks, and the transmetta upgrade I believe it is now comparable to the Dell 1Ghz latitude that I gave up. I really couldn't be more pleased with the unit.

Significant wireless, pen, and customer service problems. It is my opinion that Compaq is one of those companies that pays enormous lip service to customer service in both slogans and other marketing materials, but refuses to respond to emails, to respond to customers concerns, or to compensate adequately for defective products when they fail to fix equipment under warranty. You can draw your own conclusions when you get your TC1000.

I had no problems until I dropped it on the hardwood floor! Even then, it continued to work just fine! However, I decided to send it to Compaq to fix a cracked chrome piece, and did discover I had cracked the LCD as well. I replaced it at my cost, but when I got it back it did have wireless problems. Compaq has it back now for repair. In my opinion, Compaq has been more than gracious and helpful with me. I am very pleased with my unit and the service I have received.

My complaints with the TC1000 were WIFI range and CPU lag. The speed issue really got better with the CMS update. WIFI also got a bit better with the constantly incoming driver updates. For that I must say I am very satisfied with the update frequency and quality of HP/Compaq. The TC1000 in general is a big hit. I love it more than any computer I have ever owned or seen.

No problems at all, and I use it both at home and at work. At home, I connect wirelessly with no issues. At work I connect both wirelessly and via Ethernet (depending on situation) with no problems. I'll admit at first I was a little concerned about the speed, but it's been my primary work machine for over a couple months and I really have no complaints.
Also, I use the docking station at work and connect a USB mouse, keyboard, and the SONY MPD-AP20U CD-ROM drive with no problems.

No hardware problems. Windows XP broke and could not be installed or rolled back once. I still can't determine why this happened. I love this machine it is a real step forward. Like going from CP/M to Windows 3.1.

I have ZERO problems. I have 768MB and use the LinkSys presentation gateway to give presentations while I walk around conference rooms. In additon, my house has 2 Wi-Fi zones and I can go from zone to zone with no problems.
I also have a T-Mobile GPRS card and have been in 13 markets with 52k wireless connectivity. Beyond this, I have also used it at many Starbucks with my HotSpot account.
All in all, this thing rocks! I even started a few subscriptions with Zino and I am in to that.
Got TabletPlanner 2.0 and don't know how I have lived without this.
My wife is an Interior Designer and she is using it to show clients instant mock-up's of their rooms...
A++++ for HP/Compaq

I think the overwhelming post here state the fact...the TC1000 is just great...
I am just another satisfied customer, and have had no issues with my TC1000 except for a faulty pen...
In addition, I, like Lars, noticed a speed increase with the Transmeta patch from HP. These guys are just great with their support and driver updates!
Hope this helps,
SK

I have not had any compaq specific problems.
I have had a problem with wireless disconnection but that is now down to my wireless access router not my compaq. I have used it for long periods of time in starbucks and wirelessly in the apple store without a problem.
I love it !!

Owned mine since before christmas. Had a problem pen. Noticed the problem at 2:00Â*pm one afternoon called HP had a new pen in my hands the next morning. Excellent service and no problems otherwise. Wifi works better than my other notebook both at home and work. Most exciting product since my first cell phone.

I work in IT for a group of sales folks at a Life Insurance company. We have been Compaq / HPQ customers for since the Compaq Luggable. We buy their Servers, Desktops, Laptops etc. We have been customers of IBM, DELL, HP, the list goes on. Not only does Compaq bring innovative products to the market and to the ENTERPRISE, they consistantly service our company with a "consistant" level of service that is quite acceptable. Isolated incidents do happen and whenever there has been a product quality issue, we have always been treated fairly and professionally. I hope those that read these strings takes advice from a seasoned customer who has been dealing with this company since their inception .. 1982. Anyone knows who deals with HPQ that if you have an issue with service or product quality, that there is an escalation path. USE IT.
