After receiving 2 defective TC1000's I was able through posting to this site get (Name Removed), customer service rep for Compaq, to send me a third TC1000. (Name Removed) discovered that I was posting to this site and he contacted Spencer and implored him to remove the posts from the site. Spencer, being the honest and fair guy he is, refused to do this becuase the posts were fair and accurate and informative for pontential Compaq customers. (Name Removed) then contacted me and told me that he somehow discovered that TC1000's have bad antenna's in them and that he would have a TC1000 sent to me with a new antenna, but that I would have to call Spencer and have him remove the feedback regarding the defective wireless card. Sad to say, the third TC1000 is no different from the first 2 and the by the time I take 15 steps away from my wireless access point my signal is low, as it was previously. When I hook up my USB wireless adapter I have an excellent signal strength at the same place, so we know it is not the signal. (Name Removed) called back the next day and I told him that there was no significant improvement and he told me that he had a great signal strength from this TC1000 at 200 foot from the same model linksys access point. I know this is impossible based upon my own experience. (Name Removed) then became very hostile in demanding immediate return of the previous TC1000 though I had just received it last evening and had stayed up until 2:30 am to install some of my programs. Despite the fact that I still had much more work to upgrade and needed my previous unit for business puposes, (Name Removed) threatened me about billing me for the late returned TC1000 and said that I would own that one too. I think this it is reprehensible how I have been treated by (Name Removed) and Compaq computers. Not as much as an apology for the countless hours of work due thier defective computer, having to go on message boards to get service, and then still ending up with defective merchandise without any intention to compensate me for this. This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced.

I am sorry you are having this problem sam. If it makes you feel better to know, I have had excellent results from my wireless card since purchase last year. I did install it myself and it wasn't done at the factory.

Good luck and I hope you get this figured out. The TC1000 is a great machine, I hate to hear that you are going through such a nightmare.

I also am experiencing excellent results with my internal wireless card. I also installed it myself since my TC-1000 didn't come with one. I was using a Linksys PC card for a while and when I found out others where having good results with the new driver I decided to upgrade.

I don't think the signal strength is the real issue. I get problems even when the signal is at 60% (good).

Mon likely its interference or faulty batches of internal wireless cards ??

It is very unfortunate that you are having all of these problems.

However, I think that it is quite wrong for you to use this forum with your vendatta against a specific service guy. You are abusing your membership privileges.

I hope that Spencer does remove this guys name from your posts

Everyone should be aware of customer service problems at Compaq and defective units because this affects prospective buyers. I have wasted countless hours of time and money because Compaq refuses to fix the internal wireless card. Spencer will not do anything because he knows this appropriate and I am being appropriate. If you dont want to respond, you have that choice. Everything I have said is true and honest and an excellent reflection of what others have experienced. It is important to note that the 2 posters that indicate excellent wireless reception have installed their own cards. 2 questions. why did they get the non wireless unit? and why is their reception better than the ones with the compaq cards? easy, defective wireless cards on compaq units. solution: buy unit without wireless card and save $100

Or, you could get a Motion and be happy all around. :)

I'm sorry that people are having problems with the TC100 here, but attacking Compaq's customer service isn't what the forums are for. It is fine to post about problems you are having, but please try to keep the tone down. (By request via this forum and via e-mail by various parties, I have removed all mention of the service rep's name from the post, and locked it down. Thanks for your cooperation.)
