View Full Version : When the TabletPC is docked, a reported 100Mbps

When the TabletPC is docked, a reported 100Mbps ethernet
connection (via the FlexDock) is extremely sluggish. Web-
browsing works but is extremely slow, and connections to shared-
network drives drop. XP's Network Diagnostics fails during
the pinging of the same-subnet gateway.

Networking seems fine when the ethernet connection is
directly connected to the TabletPC.

I just received the TabletPC and FlexDock this week,
and this is the first day I tried the dock.

Anyone else having this problem?

I have the same configuration. I have both network devices active on while using the flex dock and have no network problems.

I have the same configuration also... no problems here, either.

No problems here either. What is your metric set to on each interface? Maybe XP is choosing to use the wireless when it should prefer to use the wired.

Hi
If I read your message correctly, you are seeing different speeds from the wired ethernet when the cable is plugged into the tablet directly from when it is plugged into the dock, is this correct?

If this is the issue, I think it might be worth calling Support at 866-322-9783, because it sounds like it could be that the dock's ethernet port isn't functioning, so your tablet is falling back to wireless. Try it with the 802.11b port disabled (via Dashboard), and see if it works when docked at all?

Good luck, and please let us know the outcome,
Thanx

steveh,
You did read my message correctly.
Wireless was disabled in both cases.

Using cnet's bandwidth tests,
I had download speeds of about 1000 kbps when undocked and about 80 kbps when docked.

I downloaded a diagnostic utility from Realtek's website
ftp://152.104.125.40/cn/nic/rtl8139abcd8130810xseries/windialog-8139(128).zip

The network card passed the diagnostic tests when both undocked and docked. However, under the statistics tab, it does report "receive errors" only when docked.

I'll call Support tomorrow. (Will they speak to me? I ordered the bundle from Gateway.)

Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for pointing this out -- you are correct, if you bought it from Gateway you need to go to them for support.

It sounds like you have done all the diagnostics anyone could ask, so I have no other suggestions.

Thanx, and let us know what happens,
steveh
