Robert, on the right side, the 3RD of three USB ports (from L to R) has a power port next to it. The NEC CD ROM uses this USB and power port with a combo plug. what other USB peripherals either have a combo plug that fits the USB/power ports, or what type of power plug fits the power port and what would it be used for?
thanks

I don't know. I'll try to find out. I've never seen a USB device with a power plug, other than our CD-ROM. Sorry.

Thanks Robert.
Btw, on the Microsoft TPC hardware showcase web site, the spec sheet for the NEC says :
"System Storage Capacity up to 60GB support with Disc Anti-Shock Protection".
tell me it's not a mistake!

Looks like a mistake, as the spec sheet line says:
Capacity up to 60GB support with Disc Anti-Shock Protection (DASP) External 1394 DVD/CD-RW combo drive
and we know that the NEC doesn't have a 1394 port. What could it be then...?
Looking at the Acer spec sheet, one sees the exact same line:
Capacity up to 60GB support with Disc Anti-Shock Protection (DASP) External 1394 DVD/CD-RW combo drive
Shame on MS webpage writers -- seems like that line was copied wholesale from the Acer specsheet.
I would have bought the NEC if it had even a 40GB hard disk -- 20GB made me buy the Motion, which I'm really impressed with so far.

It's a power port for USB devices. It fooled me at first too.

One of our design goals was to be thinner than anyone else. That forced us to go with a 5mm thick drive (Motion uses an 8mm thick one). We're using the largest 5mm thick drive available on the market right now (Toshiba makes the drive and it's only available in 10GB and 20GB sizes).
Engineering is all about tradeoffs. If you want to go thin and light you need to make tradeoffs. Hell, one of my favorite laptops is Apple's 17-inch G4, but it weighs 8.6 pounds. Whew.

Are the USB ports USB 2.0?
