OK. I am really close to getting a tablet pc. 12.1in or larger screen. Slate version. So its either Motion or Paceblade. I was kinda hoping for faster processor, better video, lighter and most importantly cheaper.
Ok, just cheaper would be fine.

Are there any tablet pcs on the horizon with decent screen and slate version?

Smaller is better, anyway. The resolution remains the same, and smaller means lighter and more portable. And if you're looking for better video then the HP/Compaq TC1000 is the only one with a dedicated graphics card, a 16MB Nvidia Geforce2Go.

I agree with MooseMaster. I'd hold a couple of the 10" tablets before you completely dismiss the smaller screen. The usage pattern for a slate tablet is much different than that of a laptop. The screen is usually much closer to your face than a laptop that is usually at arms length. Also, as MooseMaster mentioned, when you make the screen bigger but keep the resolution the same, all you are doing is moving the dots farther apart. Wider dot pitch = grainier image.

I'll second that. I have the Toshiba which has a 12" screen and at first I was worried it'd be too small compared to my previous notebook. I've found it's just fine in notebook mode, just wish it has a higher resolution. In slate mode I've found it actually seems a little too big. So for a slate I'd actually recommend a smaller screen. Couldn't imagine using a 14" slate.

I couldnt do the 10" screen so I went with the Motion. Think about it this way. A sheet of paper is 8.5 X 11. The 12.1 in screen closely mimics that.

Actually, from the conversations on the HP board and my experiences with my motion, it seems there's less problems with the video on the motion- I do graphically intensive things (play games) that the HP doesn't seem to be able to handle.

I have to agree with others that have posted here. You really need to try one of each to see what you think of the screen size. I moved from a 15" laptop as my daily machine so the 12.1 is as small as I could go. While it is true that the resolution is the same for the 12.1 and 10.l5, the text size isn't. The smaller the screen the smaller the text at the same resolution. For me that was the issue. Since I read so much on my machine and use spreadsheets, I really wanted easier viewing. For others this is not and issue.

It is important to note that these are my preferences. Many others feel the exact opposite. You really need to actually look at a machine with each screen size before you decide. I did and that really helped me make my decision.

As my tax return was not what I expected, I will have to put off the TPC purchase for a few months. Not too much of a problem, since better models will be coming out, or at least price will go down. Im thinking September will be my purchase date.
