I have read a few things related to the NEC batteries:

i Obviously very light - not sure of exact weight
ii The NEC will operate under AC without having the battery attached - which I assume will reduce the length, as the battery is attached to to the bottom of the unit. Obviously the tablet will also be even lighter
iii Retail price of a battery is $99
iv Recharge unit will be available which accepts upto 4 batteries at once
v Average longevity is 3 hours - may be only 2 hours with wifi and heavier usage

All my laptops and the Fuji run on ac with the battery removed. It leaves an unfinished end, exposing the battery contacts and opportunity for damage to the casing. why run with the battery detached?

Yes, if the contacts are exposed - that would be unwise - thanks for pointing that out.

Without the battery attached the unit would:
have less length - good for me
be even lighter - good for me

So, I had envisaged relaxing/surfing/reading under that scenario!

that makes sense to me. a plastic end cap might be nice if your want to run with the battery removed.

I use the Fujitsu in the secondary landscape mode as a left hander, and most often hold the "battery end" with my right hand. without the battery attached, its uncomfortable and risks damaging the casing.

I bet the NEC will be the same, unfortunately.

Nah, the NEC's battery goes on at the bottom of the unit. I'll try to take some pictures of the unit without batteries, so you can see how it'll look. I think it'd work quite well without batteries.

thanks scoble - look forward to that.

The NEC weighs 2.25lbs with the battery - what will be the weight without the battery?

Are these batteries already being sold by NEC for other laptops or are they specific to your new tablet?

thanks again

thanks for the correction - the pictures would be nice -front and back without the battery, and "end-on" if you can.

thanks

I'll try to get you photos. It's a little hard cause all of our samples here are out in the field.

Yes, we're selling batteries. They are $99 suggested retail price. They are exclusive to our Tablet (they slide on the bottom).

Robert, look at the 3D site:

It sure looks like the battery inserts into guides on each side - and without the battery, the guides are exposed. Your pictures will help.

Yes, that's absolutely true, but I don't find that objectionable. It's not where you hold the unit and I don't see anything that is open to damage if you don't have a battery on the unit while using it (other than if you dropped it, and then I'm not sure if the battery would help you anyway).

Robert, my point is the NEC base is just as exposed and vulnerable to damage when the battery is detached-just like the Fujitsu. I would not use the unit with the battery detached.
