Hi After 3 months of waiting, my 3505 finally showed up. I Had orderd the extra ram (1gb) bigger HDD 60 GB and bluetooth module separately hoping that a base unit would show up before a really loaded up one. RAM was an easy insatll after I read this side for the slot under the keyboard. The HDD upgrade will have to wait because i could not get the 3505 to see a pcmcia cd rom drive. I will try this later. I had no problem installing the BT card the way the instructions say but I am getting the TOSRFEC.SYS error whis is that the USB adaptor does not get the power it needs. My feeling is that the ribbon cable that cam with it might have been installed incoreectly . there is a white and blue side and an all whit side sith printing on it... which side faces up? If anyone got this working , Please let me know. thanks
Ok.. I got it running. When you plug the ribbon cable into the BT module and to the mother board make sure the contacts are facing you or up. the Blue and white side should be down so that it is facing away from you. Hope this helps !!

Wow, thats great, you're the first person I know that has installed the Toshiba chip and ribbon cable.
1.) I have the chip (I hope it's the right one) but can't seem to locate the ribbon cable itself...any ideas?
2.) Also would be possible to us give a step by step of the installation from scratch..like what panel underneith the 3500 to unscrew first and proceed from there. I have found bits and pieces in a search but not a complete "start to end" instructions and am affraid that when I am able to find the ribbon cable itself, it won;t come with any instructions. Thanks!

How did you acquire the chip? Was it a toshiba package? Mine came with Chip, mounting screw ribbon cable and stickers for fcc compliance. as for how to do it... it is fairly easy... flip table over... where it swivels.. there are four screws remover them. take cover off... it is easy if you ope door vga out and then pull up from there.

Then remove the two screws holding metal shield in place.

then remove piece of tape and then place chip on board add screw and then attach ribbon with exposed contacts side up. then add antennae replace tape then reassemble.. voila

Where did you get the Bluetooth chip from and how much was it? I don't really have a need for BT right now, but it's a nice option.

Wow, Thanks for the pictures and descriptions! If you look at your last picture, I have the tiny board containing the BT chip. What I need is the small screw and the ribbon cable. I still trying to get them...and wish I had some luck. By the way I wish before you installed it, I had asked you to read the numbers on your chip (the underside of the little board containing the BT chip, to make sure I have the right one. I also have some stock numbers on the cardboard box the chip came in. I purchased the chip from another TabletPC Buzz member quite some time ago, knowing all he had was the chip. Oh well, back to my search. By the way, where did you get (purchase) the entire chip, screw and cable from? Thanks!

Thanks again! Now if I can only find some source that has the ribbon cable, I would be able to install the Bluetooth chip I have already. I know some are in the same boat as I am in regard to finding a source for the ribbon cable.
My Portege, it turns out after checking (thanks for the steps) does not have stars on thars. Heck, it only had one screw holding the little metal shield in place. (Brand new, direct from factory, that compartment had never been opened prior to this.) Hmmph. I guess if I really want Bluetooth I'll have to buy it separately.
This, when the extra RAM I ordered back when I ordered it on December 5th 2002 STILL hasn't shown up yet. :/
Thanks again for the info though. At least now I know.

David,
I think you got the chip from me. When I ordered it, I did not know that there was a ribbon cable needed. I did send some info on an outfit in Pennsylvania that sold me the chip. They would be able to locate and order the ribbon. They are listed as an authorized repair center on the Toshiba website.
Hope that helps.

Hi,
Yes, I did purchase the chip from you. at the time you were kind enough to provide me with the name of that place in Penn., but unfortunately I don't have that info anymore. If you could let me know the name and number of that companyt again, that would be most helpful...as other sources I've tried can't seem to find me the ribbon cable. Thanks!
Hi! I just bought my Toshiba TabletPC 3505 2 days ago with integrated Bluetooth (I did not install it myself). However from day 1 and after a fresh reinstall with Toshiba CDs now I still get the same error message everytime I start the Bluetooth Manager : Could not open the Bluetooth ACPI device driver (tosrfec.sys). Try again?". I have tried to install the common ACPI files for this model as well but no better results. Bluetooth does not work, I cannot detect the Tablet PC nor can the tablet PC detect anything since it tells me Bluetooth is off. :( Any idea on what could be wrong or where to get help?

Hi and thanks!
I actually tried the driver update at first but without success. I also did not find any trace of the BT in the device manager. I went to Toshiba support website and the problem ws listed for a different Toshiba model.
However a guy from Toshiba replied that in most cases this problems turns out to be either that the BT is not present or that the card is faulty. :(
Is there a way to find out whether the BT card is in (and that the shop did not sell me the wrong model) without opening the laptop?
Thanks -

Hi,
Thanks for the information on obtaining the ribbon cable for the Bluetooth module. Now that I have the BT "chip" (board) and will be ordering the ribbon cable, the question is where to get the tiny screw that's supposed to hold down the BT chip (board). Any ideas without going to a hobby shop and buying lots of tiny micro screws and going through them one at a time?

I ordered the bluetooth kit as described in these postings from CDW 2 days ago for my new Toshiba 3505. I received and installed it today as per the instructions. Everything works great. Thanks to everyone who contributed especially the detailed pictures. The module came with instructions but the colored pictures were more helpful. The only issue I had was how to install the ribbon cable. I soon discovered how you have to move the clip forward to put the ribbon in.
Thanks again everyone,

I have exactly the same error has you...I have already tried everything but i have no idea what's wrong!!
Someone can help us...
Claudia
Dear Claudia, It turned out that the BT was not installed in my tablet PC as the shop where I bought it told me. This can apparently be checked by looking into the device manager: if the BT device does not appear that means that most likely the device is either faulty or abscent (as was telling the Toshiba support guy).
Did you install the BT device yourself or was it sold with the integrated BT?

Great information - much appreciated.
I am trying to purchase the bluetooth option in Belgium for the 3505 I already own. Unfornately, the places I have looked only have the PA3235U-2BTM, rather than the PA3235U-1BTM.
Does anyone know if the xx2BTM is compatible and is the same module type of chip?

Hi All,
I had recently purchased the Toshiba BT chip (small BT board)specifically for the 3500 and just a few days ago obtained the ribbon cable that goes with the BT chip (board) so I can start installing it. Beffore I install it, could anyone who purchased the complete BT package from CDW tell me if the tiny minature screw that holds the BT board in the 3500 come with the complete BT set, or is the screw already inside the 3500 prior to opening up the 3500. I ask so I'll know in advance to anticipate (or not) looking for a tiny screw. Thanks!

Hi,
I finally got my kit from CDW. (UPS really messed up on the shipping. I won't be using UPS for XMAS this year!!!). In looking through the instructions I see that there is a connector between the antenna and the BT module. I assume that this connector is already inside my 3500 because it did not come with the kit. Is that correct?
BTW, the kit did come with the tiny little screw needed to hold the BT module in place.
jerry
Can I purchase this bluetooth kit and install it in the new M200 tabletpc?
Thx in advance

Hi,
I like your question zzz. BTW, is this bluetooth board a Mini-PCI board or not. I don't think it is, because then it could not be installed if the mini-PCI slot is in use with Wi-fi (802.11b).
Thanks in advance

Hi Jerryk,
First in answer to your question, the kit (as far as I can tell comes with the chip (on a tiny board), a very small ribbon cable and a tiny screw (as you indicated in your previous post. Are you missing this ribbon cable?
I had to order one and the company actually sent and charged me for two. (not CDW). I put the kit together seperately so can't say if the kit CDW sent you is suposed to have the tiny ribbon (connector) cable. I would find out but if not, I do have my extra one for sale, in case you need it.
I never got the instructions but in it, do they say anything about the Toshiba bluetooth software after instillation of the bluetooth kit is peformed?

The "kit" which I got from CDW contained the chip, a screw, the small cable (looks like a little piece of tape), regulatory stickers and a manual. After reading previous posts, I downloaded the drivers from the support site and installed them. Everything worked, although the Sony-Ericsson software for my T68i is very finicky.

Hi Visini,
After installing the Bluetooth kit on your 3500/3505, you mentioned having to donloard the drivers from the support site. Do you have the web address for that site and which drivers specifically did you download and install? Did the instrutions that came with the kit mention anything about downloading the drivers?
Later next week I am going to install the kit on the 3500 but when I look I have something called "bluetooth stack already on the 3500. Not sure if this is the driver all ready installed. Your feedback would be apprecited. Thanks1

No, the question I have was about the tiny wire that connects the BlueTooth adapter to the antenna. I found that it was installed when I put my adapter in.
Now the problem is trying to dial out via my Siemens S56. The Toshiba BuleTooth Manager can see the device and connects, but when I go to dialup networking the only modem it shows is the one built in to the 3500. It does not show an entry for my S56? What am I forgetting to do?

It is probably the same stack you have on your machine, but nonetheless I did this and it worked. My manual is lost in the basement somewhere, I don't recall it being very helpful. I used this thread to guide me.

Hi Jerry,
I can't speak about the Siemens as I have the Sony-Ericsson. When you say you are connecting, do you mean that you are connecting a bluetooth serial port (Com 1 in my case) to the dial up networking service under the bluetooth manager, or do you mean you have just paired the devices? Assuming you have the service connected to a port, I was able to use the Dial-Up Networking Wizard and created a new connection to my phone. Also, you will need the dial-up command (in my case the number to connect is "*99#") to tell the phone to connect.
Hope this helpful. Bluetooth is definately not plug and play.

The Bluetooth Service Center shows a service called Dial-up Networking on my S56. This service is shown as connected. I believe it is connected to COM6 on the Toshiba. However, when I execute the Dial-up Networking Wizard, the only modem it sees is the built-in modem associated with COM4. So this is the only COM port on which you can dial-out. I know the problem is the Toshiba Bluetooth stack. I just tried the phone on one of my other systems. On that system the S56's DIalup networking also shows, and if I set the dial-up to use this "modem" I can dial all day long. So something is broken in the Toshiba stack.

Hi Visini,
Thanks for the link to the bluetoot stack. It appears to be already loaded onto my 3500 (why it originally came this way (driectly from Toshiba) I don't know but it appears after installing the bluetooth kit, it has to be reloaded...at least thats what many have found. I wonder why? Anyhow, I should know by next week. Thanks again!

Visini,
How did you get the Dial-up Netowrking wizard to create a connection to your phone? Could you check your dial-up connection and see what modem it is using (select the connection and press the Properties button and see what Modem it is using). With other BlueTooth Stacks I have installed a modem called a "BlueTooth Modem" was created. However this modem did not get created part of the Toshiba Stack install. Even when I removed the original stack and reinstalled it with the stack on the Toshiba web site the BlueTooth Modem is not created.

I FINALLY got the connection working. The issue is that the Toshiba BlueTooth stack does not have built in support for GPRS access to the internet. So to get this working you must install whatever GPRS access package is available for your cell phone. In my case this is the Siemens Data Access package. To save other people some grief here is the installation procedure for getting your 3500 to access the internet via a BlueTooth enabled phone.
[list=1]
Purchase and Install any necessary BT hardware, such as the Toshiba BlueTooth Module Kit, PA3235U-1BTM.
Download and install the latest version of the Toshiba BlueTooth Stack available at the Toshiba support site. This is may not be absolutely necessay, but ensures you have the latest drivers.
Launch the Toshiba BlueTooth Service Center. This should cause BlueTooth to start. You can tell that BlueTooth is running because the antenna icon on the left will have waves radiating away from the antenna.
From the Service Center select the BlueTooth | Device Discovery option. In a moment your phone should appear.
If the phone's services do not appear select the BlueTooth Service Search option.
From the Windows Start Menu select the BlueTooth Local COM item. This will launch an application that shows your COM Ports. You will probably see COM 4 associated with the Toshiba Software Modem, COM 6 associated with Bluetooth LocalCOM-Client, and COM 7 associated with Bluetooth LocalCOM-Server. The number you need to remember is COM port associated with the BlueTooth LocalCOM Server. COM6 in this example. Close this window.
Back in the Bluetooth Service Center, select the Dial-up Networking Service. Right click and Connect. At this point you may have to enter the PIN for the BT connection. I don't think it matters what PIN you enter, just that they are the same on the phone and the PC. At this point we have a BT connection to the dial-up networking service on the phone operational!
Now we need to create a Bluetooth modem port so Windows Dialup networking can connect via the phone. To do this you need to install whatever GPRS dialing/access software is appropriate for your phone. For the Seimens phones this is the Seimens Data Suite. Nokia has their own package. Regardless of the package, you only need to install the service for the serial data cable. You do not need the one for BlueTooth access. In fact, if you try to do this for a Seimens phone you will hang the installation.
At some point during the installation, the package will ask for the COM port to use. This is were you enter COM6 or whatever your computer said in step 6.
Once you have the phone's GPRS dialing software installed you can go to the Windows Start Menu and select Connect to | Show all Connections. The phone's GPRS program may have created a new entry. If it does, this is the one you execute to connect to the internet via your phone. If a new entry was not created, select "Create a new Connection". Select Dial-up Networking and go through the various pages of the wizard. The username, password, and phone number settings vary by phone provider. For my 2 providers, ATT and T-Mobile, you enter nothing in the username and password and the phone number is *99#.
Before you dial, check the Properties of your new connection. The connection should be connecting via something OTHER THAN the "Toshiba software Modem". In the case of the Siemens's it connects via "Modem - GPRS via COM".
Now you can connect and surf, read email, or whatever else you do on the internet. Expect your cell phone bill to get much bigger!

Have fun,
Jerry

I have a Toshiba Bluetooth PCMCIA Card
http://www.bluetooth-market.com/ttopa3053.htm
As seen there. I have mine split open and I wouldn't be too surprised if this contains the same antenna & pieces that are used
in the 70 dollar internal installation part.
Anyway it works when connected to the computer just like the built in one would (I assume) as I didn't have to put in any extra software.
Is anyone trying to use Toshiba Bluetooth with a Nokia 3650 Cell Phone? I'm trying to send files and recieve them, but I haven't had any luck.

Can we find a way to use Widcomm on this machine with the Internal Bluetooth or the external Toshiba Bluetooth Card?
I have both softwares installed, but Widcomm doesen't see it. I'm assuming its because the toshiba software takes it first. I'm not risky enough to uninstall the one.

Hmmm... I always thought that the antenna was built-in, not the chipset to handle bluetooth.
Anyway, the European version of Bluetooth is not catching on. From what I read, the US standard is taking hold in more places than originally expected. Apparently, the German equivalent to Starbucks (Gebrannter Kaffee) adopted the US version of Bluetooth and it more entites are using for various reasons including one odd idea that Bluetooth has a standard associated with it.
There is one holdout. Apparently France has created its own standard and has started heavily taxing the non-French version. The French version has been using the tradename bleutooth.

You are correct, the Bluetooth module is an option, but the antenna for it is integrated into the screen.
I imagine in some markets it is included, so don't everyone from Uzbekistan flame me at once... :-)
I am having the same problem:
I have Protege M200, with integrated Bluetooth. When I try to use it I get:
"Could not open the Bluetooth ACPI device driver (tosrfec.sys)"
Anyone else get this and figure out how to fix it?
Please help!!?!?!
Thanks,
fuul

Recently acquired a Japanese Toshiba CX series (not sold in this country yet) laptop with a blue tooth card in it (PA3232U-1BTM). It has antena, cables everything attachached and is currently sitting on my desk. If anyone is interested in this, email me. My name is David Emanuel. My email is badger36@knology.net I was searching for this item just to find out what it was and what it could do and my google search brought me to this forum and this thread. this card is very very small and looks like it would fit some type of Tablet PC. Regards, David
