When checking my e-mail in Outlook, I like to use the preview pane to speed up my e-mail reading. This way I don’t have to open the e-mail to read it. However on the TC-1000 I experience a five second delay before it displays the next e-mail; this significantly slows down my e-mail reading quite a bit. It only takes seven seconds to actually open an e-mail. Does anyone else experience the same problem or better yet know of a way to speed things up a little. :(

How much memory do you have and did you run the recommended tweaks to increase processing speed?

768 megs, ran them all. Are you saying you don't have this problem?

I don't have the problem; emails with no graphics open immediately ( ~ 1 sec). I'm using Outlook 2000, though. You're probably using Outlook XP. I have only 256 Megs of RAM.

I have the same problem. I am using Outlook XP. I guess a solution is to turn off the preview pane...
Any ideas on what is causing this?
[I was so close to downloading Office 2003 off MSDN right when the pulled it...]

I'm running Outlook 11 (beta 1) on a 768MB tablet and preview performance is snappy.

Do you have Instant Messaging enabled in Outlook? (Tools/Options/Other). If so and you do not have your passport configured, Outlook checks that software all the time.
If the option is checked, try unchecking it and see if it makes a difference in your performance. It made a significant difference for me.

The above post is correct,be sure the .Net option isn't selected as it severly slows the preview pane!
My problem has been Outlook.exe Running 60-70 Percent on the processor after shutting down outlook XP. I have to manually close the service OR it burns my unit hot and drains the battery.

Don't you run a greater chance of contracting a virus using the preview pane, even with virus software running?

Appraiser,
Yes, using the preview pane and auto-preview are more dangerous than not using them. The problem is that outlook must open the message to preview it. Most antivirus programs will catch these problems, but if they don't fix a particular new virus yet you will get infected. I like the added security of running without the preview.

It also made a significant difference for me! Thanks for a great tip.
