If you disable your cpu fan, the cpu will run too hot, will become unstable and in worst case will be ruined. I'd not recommend it. AFAIK, the fan is temperature controlled, so better to reduce the cpu's frequency with some tool (dunno, what can be used for Transmeta cpus), so that the fan won't kick in. However, a speed impact has to be accepted, when reducing the frequency.

I'm with FullAction on this - cutting the fan wire? Don't even go there!! [:O]

However, a little download called BatteryAid http://81.5.185.34/tc-one-thousand/downloads.html#Utils will allow you to clamp the CPU speed as FullAction suggests. (BTW - I couldn't find the registry entry to remove - but it all works just fine, so don't worry if you can't find it too.)

Unfortunately the utility is a bit extreme - you can run the TC in "Performance" mode, ie: permanently flat out at 1GHz, "Automatic" which is how the TC normally works, and, the option you need, "Battery Optimized" which locks the CPU at 300MHz. At this setting you can run all day and the fan will never come on. But that makes running most software a pain because it's just TOO slow. I'd really like something in between - 700-800MHz perhaps. The only other tool that I know about, SpeedswitchXP does not work on the TC1000.

Personally speaking, I don't find the fan too noisy, but I guess it all depends on the environment you are in too.
